I think I need to find myself a course that I can do from home in my own time and expand on that into this stuff down the line when I at least have some experience with it. I do have a Raspberry Pi 3 and I bout it because I want to get more experience in things like this. I have a working VPN and a router that I'm very happy with. I paid £200 for the router that I'm using and the cheapest one they sell is $229.00 which is about the same price and although it's not as good as the original one, if it does everything that I need then I'm OK with that.Ĭlick to expand.I think I'm done, for now. You can actually buy routers pre-configured to work with NordVPN but you do pay a premium for them. I have a horrible feeling that I'm going to need to send the router back and replace it with a different model. Reading what you've said, I want to set the router up as a VPN Client rather than VPN Server? I'm wondering if that's just not possible on the router I'm using? Is there anything in the paperwork they list on the Netgear website that suggests that it is possible? I'm wondering if you're on to something here and I've just been a complete idiot. I essentially want to connect to that VPN service but directly from the router. That was why I bought that router so that all the running through the router was secured by the installed on that router. I do apologise for the length of my first post or if I've done anything incorrectly here but I'm really assuming that whatever issue that I'm having isn't at all complicated and everything here makes perfect sense to a lot of people on here and I'm really hoping that you'll be able to assists a beginner here because it really is driving me mad.Ĭlick to expand. At the moment I am paying for a VPN service from NordVPN and it's fine but because it works via their own App on Mac and iPhone only the hardware that runs those apps is secured by that VPN. I still have the option to return the router but I don't really want to do that because I do really want a router based VPN service so that my entire network is covered. I've retried everything many times of the past few days, I've followed videos on YouTube and other directions that I've found but the Netgear directions that I've linked to appear to be the simplest by far. I'm more than happy to paste the logfile here if that's going to help?Īgain, please bear in mind that I'm very new to these things so none of what I'm seeing here makes any sense to me and I've never been involved in VPNs at all apart from my NordVPN experience which was really basic but the VPN only covered my Mac. The results of doing that are as follows.Ĭlearly, there are issues with this screen but I don't understand what is wrong or how to repair it. These are the directions that I've followed to set up a Dynamic DNS - How to Setup a NETGEAR Dynamic DNS account? The real issue for me is that I am very much a beginner so that when something goes wrong I don't really understand why it's gone wrong or how I should remedy the issue. I'm very much a beginner but always wanted to upgrade to doing this via my router at some point and had spent a lot of time investigating how it's done and it all seemed pretty simple so I upgraded to the NETGEAR D7800 a few days ago but I've spent hours doing this without any luck at all. I've been using a NordVPN as VPN provider for some time and they supply a simple desktop app which uses a simple system of logging in to my account and pressing the button to connect to the VPN. Run the following in terminal: nslookup example.Seeing the size of this post is probably going to put some people off reading it but I'd be really grateful if somebody could assist me with this as the I think that the issue that I'm getting is going to be a really simple fix.for people who know what they're doing. Verify you have a working internet connection and that the configured DNS resolver works. Tunnelblick can get stuck with the status “Resolving domain name” if your computer has invalid DNS configuration, a previous connection was disconnected improperly, or you do not have a working network connection. If it does not connect successfully, disconnect and reconnect to try again. Monitor the connection status by hovering your mouse over the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar. If you recieve this message, then wait up to a minute for the VPN connection to establish. After 30.0 seconds, gave up trying to fetch IP address information. This computer’s apparent public IP address was not different after connecting…Īfter connecting to the VPN, you may recieve this warning message:Īs the VPN employs split-tunneling, this is normal and you can simply dismiss or ignore this message.
